Creation protection of large intentional redcats

[edit]

Rose Abrams (talk) 10:27, 18 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Rose Abrams: could you explain what these are about and why the categories should not be created? I suspect the reason no admin has picked this up is that, like me, they are not sure what is going on here and don't want to be responsible for something they don't understand. - Jmabel ! talk 20:17, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Kontributor 2K could you answer Jmabel about this? You seem to be familiar with these specific categories and the associated efforts, while I am a cross-Commons categorizer who just encounters them by chance. Rose Abrams (talk) 20:30, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Actually the red letters W3c-nc-User-ID at the bottom of the image pages are just reminders I use not to forget that the files have not been w3c-checked, and incidentally to group process the files if needed. Since in the end these categories will be emptied, there's no reason for them to be created ; this said, these categories are in my watch list and an accidental creation would be unlikely, since there is now a message on top, if not unproblematic. So eventually I don't care if they're protected or not. --Kontributor 2K (talk) 11:04, 20 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Kontributor 2K: if you intend to keep deliberately placing files in these categories (even if only temporarily in each case), could you please create them as user categories? That would hide them from people who are not logged in, and keep them out of the lists of categories needing creation. Thanks. - Jmabel ! talk 20:01, 20 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Jmabel: I could, but actually I don't intend to keep deliberately placing files in there, only remove them (once w3c-checked) - also, some faster solution might be, for people involved in Special:WantedCategories, to participate to a special 2-days-w3c-mass-file-validation marathon. just an idea. --Kontributor 2K (talk) 20:09, 20 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
edit : ok, I've created categories for the ones where there are the most files, I shall empty the others by next week --Kontributor 2K (talk) 20:42, 20 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Block for Geoffroi

[edit]

Please block my account indefinitely. LGBT users aren't welcome here. I don't want to be dumb enough to try coming back again and again. Thanks. Geoffroi 20:47, 18 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

You can add {{Retired}} to your user page. Users should not be blocked unless it falls within the blocking policy. Thuresson (talk) 19:58, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Caption vandalism due to the subject matter is a pain to revert all the time. Protection would be great. JayCubby (talk) 17:32, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

✓ Done: Semiprotected for 3 months. --Achim55 (talk) 17:40, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

User impersonation

[edit]

Deantak (talk · contribs) has impersonated Dean Takahashi to upload his photograph; I've spoken to Dean, who confirmed the user is not him (though he has graciously granted permission for the photo anyway). I can't see anything in the username policy that addresses this directly, but I figured it was worth reporting the impersonation. Rhain (he/him) 22:09, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Against policy for being "confusing" and "disruptive". DMacks (talk) 22:33, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
✓ Done indef-blocked. If they want to participate here, they need a different account name. No other edits on this one, so no point to renaming it. - Jmabel ! talk 01:41, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

File:Chris Rea 01 AB.jpg

[edit]

This i MY photo and I'd like to upload better quality version of it. Chepry (talk) 03:08, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

It seems it is protected by cascading protection from Commons:Auto-protected files/wikipedia/pl, apparently bot-maintained and related to something in the Polish Wikipedia. It was added to that list only 4 hours before you made this request, which is about a file you haven't touched since 2012. Would you mind explaining why you suddenly now want to edit it? This all seems a bit odd.
Also Pinging @AntiCompositeNumber, Legoktm, Steinsplitter, Krinkle: what would be the preferred way to remove this from its cascading protection? - Jmabel ! talk 06:44, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
